Add hidden fields to Freshsales forms

Freshsales is a popular CRM tool that comes with a basic form building tool built in. Attributer can integrate with forms created in Freshsales to pass through UTM parameters and other marketing attribution data about any leads that complete your forms.
In this article, we’ll outline how to add the hidden fields to your Freshsales forms
Step 1: Add the first Field to your Freshsales account
If you are using Freshsales, you first need to create Fields on the desired Modules (I.e. Contacts, Accounts or Deals) before those properties can be added as hidden fields on your forms.
To do this, navigate to the ‘Settings’ section by clicking the gear icon in the left menu bar, and then select the ‘Admin Setting’ from the secondary menu that appears.

Once in the Admin Settings section, select the Module (Contacts, Accounts, Deals) that you wish to store the attribution data on. For most organizations, this will be Contacts so we will use those for the rest of this article.

Once you’ve selected the chosen Module Settings, a page will appear showing all fields. Click the ‘Add New Field’ button in the top right.

In the sidebar that appears, select the ‘Text Field’ button to create a new text field and then click the ‘Add Selected’ button in the bottom right corner to proceed.

In the next screen, you will be presented with options to configure your field. On this screen, you simply need to enter ‘Channel’ as the Field Label. All other fields are optional (if you don’t know what any of them are, I’d suggest leaving them as is).
It should ultimately end up looking like this:

Click the ‘Save’ button to finish adding the first field.
Step 2: Add the rest of the Fields to Freshsales
Now that you understand how to add a new Field to the Contact module in Freshsales, we need to repeat this process a few more times to add all the properties Attributer needs to work.
The following details are what you’ll need to enter into the wizard:
Property #2
- Field Label = Channel Drilldown 1
Property #3
- Field Label = Channel Drilldown 2
Property #4
- Field Label = Channel Drilldown 3
Property #5
- Field Label = Landing Page
Property #6
- Field Label = Landing Page Group
Step 3: Add the 6x fields to your form
Now that you’ve set up those Fields on the Contact object, it’s time to add them to the form you want Attributer to work with.
To do that, navigate to the ‘Web Forms’ section (by going into Admin Settings again) and select the form you want Attributer to work with to open it in the Editor.
Once open, click the ‘Add Contact Fields’ button at the top and add the 6x contact fields you just created to the form.

Step 4: Hide the fields and give them a Default Value
Now that you have added the 6x fields to the form, you need to make them hidden so that your website visitors don’t see them. You also need to add a ‘Default Value’ which is what Attributer uses to identify the fields it needs to write information into.
To do this, tick the ‘Hidden in form’ checkbox on each field.

Once the ‘hidden in form’ checkboxes have been ticked, you’ll notice the options change to ask for a default value for each field.

In each of these boxes, enter the following default values:
Channel Field
- Default Value = [channel]
Channel Drilldown 1 Field
- Default Value = [channeldrilldown1]
Channel Drilldown 2 Field
- Default Value = [channeldrilldown2]
Channel Drilldown 3 Field
- Default Value = [channeldrilldown3]
Landing Page Field
- Default Value = [landingpage]
Landing Page Group
- Default Value = [landingpagegroup]
Your form should ultimately end up looking like this:

Step 5: Embed the form on your website
If this is an existing form
If you already have this form on your website, you don’t need to do anything else! The form will automatically be updated with these new fields and Attributer will start to write the attribution information into them and it will be captured with each new Contact in Freshsales.
If this is a new form
If this is a new form and you don’t already have it embedded on your website, then select the ‘Get Code Snippet’ in the top right corner.

In the popup that appears, you’ll want to get the website embed code (not the link). You can do this by simply clicking the ‘Copy’ button in the lower box.

Now go and paste that code into your website wherever you want the form to appear and you are done!
