How using Attributer impacts your website’s compliance with GDPR & CCA

In this article, we’ll aim to outline how using Attributer on your website impacts your organization’s compliance with regulations like GDPR.

It should be noted that this is not legal advice and we are not legal experts. This is merely our advice based on our own interpretation of the law and you should seek your own legal advice.

How does using Attributer impact my GDPR compliance?

GDPR is a data privacy and security law that outlines how organizations can process and store your personal data. It requires organizations to do things like only collect personal data where absolutely necessary, only store it for certain periods of time, store it securely, notify you if there has been a data breach, etc.

Attributer does not collect or store any personal data about your website visitors; therefore, using Attributer should not impact your organization’s compliance with GDPR.

When you place the Attributer code on your website, it simply looks at where a visitor came from, categorises them into channels (Paid Search, Organic Searh, etc) and then stores the data in a cookie in the visitor’s browser. Then, when the visitor completes a form on your website, it writes the attribution data into hidden fields on the form, where it is then captured by your chosen form tool.

At no point in time does any information about your visitors (personally identifiable information or otherwise) get sent to, processed or stored by us.

How does using Attributer impact my CCPA compliance?

Similar to GDPR, CCPA is a data privacy and security law that outlines how organizations can process and store your personal data.

Unlike GDPR which doesn’t really mention cookies much, CCPA does directly address how businesses should use cookies, what consent is required, etc.

Fortunately, the CCPA does not require a business to obtain user consent to collect and process their personal information. It’s only if you collect and sell the personal information of users to third parties that you need to give them the ability to opt out of that happening.

Therefore, using Attributer on your website does not impact your organization’s compliance with CCPA.
